California Startup has Developed Technology to Communicate in Dreams, Allowing Two Participants to Exchange Messages; Experiment Successful, say Scientists – 2024

Ever thought about talking to someone in your dream? The California-based startup REMspace seems to make this phenomenon possible, as it has successfully enabled the first two-way communication between people using lucid dreaming technology.

A September 24 news update by California-based REMspace reported that two people could actually talk to each other while they were asleep. REMspace, which is a leading California startup in the dream technology field, has created an environment where two volunteers are sending messages while they are asleep.

Both of the participants developed the ability to identify their dreams while asleep, which is referred to as lucid dreaming. In the REM stage, the brain is most active; dreams are vivid; it’s the perfect setting for California’s startup to test its innovative approach.

To facilitate these experiments, participants were given particularly designed gadgets that would remotely monitor the changing brain waves and other polysomnographic data as they settled into their beds. The central computer of the REMspace system attached to these gadgets can actually monitor in real-time any change in their sleep patterns.

When one of the participants entered a lucid dream, the experiment started. A uniquely generated word in a language called “Remmyo” characterized the brainwave patterns always seen during a lucid dream was computed by the server. The word was relayed to the first participant through headphones—a gentle whisper in the darkness of sleep.

The very first participant, dreaming of hearing the word ‘Zhilak, said it out loud and spoke it forward into the sensors that recorded his speech and transmitted and stored it on the server. The above represented half of the communication that was taking place within the dream realm and was indeed an astonishing feat for this California startup.

Eight minutes later, the second participant also entered her lucid dream. Now, knowing she was dreaming, the server sent the word ‘Zhilak’ to her through her headphones. Maya heard the word in the dream and said it out loud, indicating that she had indeed received the message.

It represented the first efficient communication between two people while dreaming, where the second participant woke up and checked the word she had received. It represented a turning point, bringing something that was separated by the conscious and subconscious realms closer together. This was not about a simple conversation but a step forward for California’s startup and the entire dream technology area.

Though the technology they used is not identified by REMspace, they claimed it was used with “specially designed equipment” containing the following: a server, apparatus, Wi-Fi, and sensors. Other scientists have not tested or attempted to reproduce this technology yet. However, according to REMspace, if the experiment were allowed, then it would indeed be a revolutionary step in sleep study and their applications can be made in skill training and treatment for mental health problems.

Founder and CEO of REMspace, Michael Raduga, said that talking in dreams reminded science fiction yesterday. This technology will be so ubiquitous that we won’t even imagine life without it anymore. It changed the vision of communication and interaction in dreams and opened doors for infinite applications commercially while showing good promise for the startups of California’s dream technology.
