In AI search, Perplexity launches Mac app to compete with OpenAI and ChatGPT on 15 Oct

On October 15, Perplexity will release its native Mac application. The Mac App Store now has a dedicated landing page with information about the next version and features consumers may anticipate. To compete with rivals like OpenAI, which released its ChatGPT app for Mac earlier this year, the company is also launching Perplexity Pro, a premium subscription option that can be bought through iTunes, in conjunction with this launch.

As per the Mac App Store listing, online users can pre-order the Perplexity app, which will install on their devices automatically as soon as it becomes available. The pre-installation procedures observed on Android systems are analogous to how this pre-order functionality operates.

All the features found on the Perplexity web, Android, and iOS apps will be available on the Perplexity Mac software as well. Users can ask questions, and the AI will use their answers to search through internet sources and compile data. The application will provide outcomes in a paragraph and bullet-point style, accompanied by citations, to allow users to go deeper into subjects and verify data. Users will also be able to ask follow-up questions, and the AI will be able to comprehend the context and respond with pertinent information. There will also be a Discover page that has been carefully chosen to assist people in finding new topics to research.

Perplexity introduced a Pro Search tool earlier this year that uses sophisticated inference techniques to analyze search queries in-depth. This function is especially useful for topics that are specialized or niche. The Mac app will have this functionality. Users can only do five searches every four hours while using the free tier.

The application can run on macOS 13 or later and has a stated size of 46.8 MB. Although the app can be downloaded for free, Perplexity Pro subscribers get early access to new features, over 300 Pro Search queries per day, and free updates to the newest AI models. Mac users can subscribe through iTunes, and the monthly subscription costs Rs. 1,950.
