Singtel is elevating its presence in the AI domain with the launch of a new data center brand dedicated to the growing industry. Named Nxera, the platform seeks to bolster AI development in Singapore and other Southeast Asian regions, collaborating with ecosystem partners such as Nvidia and Sembcorp across AI, renewable energy, sustainable technologies, and talent development.
In collaboration with Nvidia, Nxera is offering companies access to the computing giant’s GPU clusters hosted on Nxera’s AI platform, aligning with their support for Singapore’s updated National AI Strategy 2.0. Utilizing Singtel’s fixed broadband, submarine cable, and 5G networks, customers can manage their AI workloads within a multinetwork and multicloud environment.
Additional partners, including Sembcorp, Gulf Energy, and Medco Power Indonesia, are working with Nxera to achieve operational net-zero emissions by 2028. Nxera intends to leverage the renewable energy sources provided by these partners to power its regional data centers.
Moreover, Nxera is collaborating with five Singaporean institutes of higher learning to establish the Regional Sustainable Data Center Academy. This academy focuses on training students for the data center industry and has plans to extend its reach to Thailand and Indonesia in the subsequent phase.
Nxera’s debut follows Singtel’s divestment of 20% of its data center business to private equity giant KKR for US$806 million a few months ago. This transaction, valuing Singtel’s regional data center business at approximately US$4 billion, provides the telecommunications company with access to KKR’s expertise in expanding the unit across Southeast Asia.
Presently, Nxera is in the process of advancing three AI data center projects located in Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand.
